Women in Action

Women in ActionThis ETFO education program is designed to encourage the active involvement and leadership of members who self-identify as women.

Our goal is to empower women’s leadership and continue to build the union’s strength.

With financial support from the provincial office and trained ETFO member facilitators, this program is hosted by locals upon request. Level I and II of the program is a 12-hour workshop organized by a local; several locals in one geographical area can also work together to organize a program. A minimum of 12 members are required to hold the program. Typically, this program is typically held on a Friday night, all-day Saturday and on Sunday morning.

The Women in Action program includes three levels consisting of the following:

  • Level I, hosted by a local, provides members with an introduction to activism and leadership in the union;
  • Level II, hosted by a local, builds on the experiences of Level I to develop women’s leadership capacity; and
  • Level III, hosted by ETFO provincial, is now available to graduates of Women in Action I and II. This program has two parts and runs in the spring and fall of each year. Participants will develop an equity/anti-oppression framework, discuss what leadership is and different leadership styles and requests participants to develop an intensive action plan for future union leadership goals.

Locals seeking to run Level II or I, please note that there is a limited amount of funding available each year. Don’t delay, email your request to hold the program today!
